Position: Sustainability and Renewable Energy Assistant

Falls Brook Centre is a leading education and demonstration centre that inspires people to work together using environmentally sound practices to create thriving local communities. Through partnerships, recreation and education that support the creation of a balanced, sustainable way of life, FBC seeks to explore and promote practical and appropriate solutions to today’s environmental, social and economic challenges. We do this through our innovative biodiversity, local foods, renewable energy and thriving communities programmes.

FBC’s Renewable Energy programme is currently performing an efficiency upgrade to our site as well as chairing Renewables NB for the province of New Brunswick. Reporting to the Renewable Energy Coordinator, the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Assistant will also be responsible for:
• Assisting in the researching, acquisition and overseeing installation of renewable energy systems
• Documenting retrofitting processes
• Climate change adaptation educational events & other pedagogical activities
• Assisting with Renewables NB case studies throughout North-Western New Brunswick
• Facilitating on-site and community based educational projects

Furthermore, the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Assistant will work closely with all coordinators to achieve the shared goals of Falls Brook Centre relating to rural sustainability, biodiversity, community development, organic agriculture and renewable energy.

The Sustainability and Renewable Energy Assistant will be involved in hands-on learning and assignments, as well as research and administrative tasks related to our Renewable Energy programme. Assistants will have the opportunity for experiential learning in working on our alternative energy systems and in the community, as well as gain insights into research and theory in the office.

Qualifications:
• Must be between 15 and 30 at the start of employment
• Must be a full-time student returning to post-secondary education full-time in the fall
• Excellent oral and written communication in English
• Be comfortable working outside, in a physical, hands-on environment
• Background/experience in Engineering or Energy Systems an asset

Details:
• Start Date: July 6, 2015
• End Date: August 28, 2015
• Duration: 8 weeks
• Compensation: $11/hr and 37.5 hours/week

This is a full-time position, based at our site in Glassville, NB. We are in a remote, rural location, and applicants should be prepared to live and work in this type of setting.
