Mobile Market Coordinator – Halifax
(April – October, 2016 contract position)

About the Mobile Market

The Mobile Food Market is a 21-week pilot project that will sell fresh and affordable vegetables and fruit in communities in the Halifax region that have limited access to healthy food. The project is a partnership between Partners for Care, Public Health (Nova Scotia Health Authority, Central Zone), the Mayor’s Office, Ecology Action Centre, Halifax Transit, and other local community organizations and businesses. Reporting to Partners for Care and the Project Advisory Committee the role of the mobile market coordinator will be to work with the advisory committee and local host teams to implement the mobile market in each pilot community. Total length of the pilot project is 21 weeks; however the coordinator will have 5 weeks prior to the launch date for continued planning, and 2 weeks post pilot for wrap up and reporting for a total contract duration of 28 weeks.

Mobile Market Coordinator Duties Include:
• Project Management duties, including but not limited to, implementation of the project budget, coordination of evaluation activities, program tracking and reporting
• Oversee operational logistics of the mobile market, including:
• Ensuring that mobile market services operate in a safe and effective manner, and that the values of the mobile market are accurately represented in on-going activities
• Coordination of food supply chain including food procurement, display and retail activities of the mobile market, and implementation of market waste plan
• Acting as primary liaison with Halifax Transit to coordinate timing and location of stops, weekly set-up and tear town of mobile market infrastructure, and travelling with the bus every Saturday.
• Collecting sales, financial, and other mobile market data for evaluation purposes
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with the mobile market local host teams, and provide on-going support around communications, volunteer management, evaluation, and site logistics
• Work with the mobile market advisory committee to implement the communications plan, maintain an up-to-date project budget (providing financial reports as required), and investigate sustainability plans for the mobile market
• Ensure regular communication within and across local host sites, as well as with project advisory team, including attending monthly meetings with the project advisory team
• Additional duties as required

Interested candidates should possess the following skills and experience:
• Project management experience, including but not limited to managing a project budget, ensuring deliverables are met, project reporting, and fostering coordination amongst team members
• Considerable experience managing volunteers
• Proven ability to network, build partner relationships, and support community engagement processes
• Passion and knowledge of community food security, and experience translating knowledge to others
• Creative problem solving skills
• Strong organizational skills, friendly and patient
• Strong communication skills, verbal and written, including facilitation
• Willingness to learn, experiment and adapt
• Leadership skills and self-direction

The following skills are also an asset:
• Fundraising experience including grant writing skills
• Experience with project or program evaluation
• Business planning with a focus on social enterprise

Terms of Employment

Start: Target start date – April 4, 2016.
End: October 2016.

35 hours per week @ $22.00/hour

Hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 5 pm. Some flexibility with hours will be required.

Location: This position will be based in Halifax at the Victoria General Hospital - Centennial Building. It will also require regular travel throughout the week for site visits and partner meetings.
