Project Description:

We're developing the Go Maritimes transportation information system, to make it easier for people to find schedule and price information for buses, shuttles, trains and transit in Canada's Maritime Provinces. You can check out the development version at: http://test.gomaritimes.ca

Job Description:

We are hiring an information technology student to help develop the functionality and usability of the database queries, search results and user interface. The work also involves preparing map data and schedules for upload to our system and Google Transit using the General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS).

Work Term Outcomes:

You will be working as part of a team, with a project coordinator and a mentor, to improve the functionality and usability of the Go Maritimes transportation information system. Work will be flexible according to the needs of the project. Some expected outcomes are:
• Functions and features in the Go Maritimes database and search algorithm are repaired.
• Searches on Go Maritimes result in correct responses that show the user all available trips.
• The data set in the database is as complete as possible.
• A portion of our transit data is also visible on Google Transit through the Google Transit API.

Skills sought:
• MySQL and/or PostgreSQL database development
• Web development in Drupal
• Data management
• Mapping

Candidates must be:

(a) Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

(b) Registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;

(c) Intending to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;

(d) A student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), or technical program;

(e) A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;

(f) Legally entitled to work in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Details:

Starting June 20, 2016

Ending August 27, 2016

30 hours per week

$18 per hour

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia – Flexible locations are possible.
