Sierra Club Atlantic is searching for a nature-loving individual to assist with the delivery and evaluation of our Wild Child Program. This position is based in Malpeque area of Prince Edward Island.

About this Position

This is a Canada Summer Job Position, so you must meet these criteria to be eligible for this position:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,
• be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The Nature Immersion Program Guide will be responsible for helping our Wild Child Coordinator to deliver and administer the Sierra Club's PEI Wild Child program on PEI. 

Tasks will include:
• contacting local child care facilities, after school programs and camps to arrange visits
• presenting the program to interested groups, including new Canadians
• guiding children, caregivers and adults on nature excursions, 
• developing activities that educate the participants on all aspects of their local environments including conservation & ecology
• engagement via social and traditional media, 
• contributing to blogs and press releases, 
• fundraising 
• developing relationships with community partners, 
• helping to increase the reach of the program through promotion and networking. 

Applicants must have current First Aid Training and a police background check for interacting with vulnerable populations.

As with all Sierra Club staff, the student will be asked to work closely with local volunteers, and to communicate with our membership.

Qualifications:
• Post-secondary training in one of the following areas: Early Childhood Education, Environmental Studies, Ecology, Biology, Taxonomy, Environmental or Municipal Planning, Geography, Education, Public relations, Media / Journalism Studies
• good written and oral skills
• experience with fundraising an asset
• familiarity with web and social media 
• ability to work with volunteers
• organizational and time management skills
• love of nature a must!

Remuneration

This is a full-time position, 30 hours per week. Pay rate is $10.75 / hour for 6 weeks. Ideal start date is July 4th, but we can be flexible.
