Position: Education Manager

Food First NL is a provincial, non-profit organization with a growing network of over 2,600 organizations and individuals engaged in improving food security across the province. Food First NLs mission is to actively promote comprehensive, community-based solutions to ensure physical and economic access to adequate and healthy food for all.
Food First NL was founded in 1998 in response to growing concerns of hunger and poverty in the province. Since then, Food First NL has grown into a hub for food security work in Newfoundland and Labrador by catalyzing and supporting community-based food security programs; increasing awareness and understanding of food security and its impacts; and increasing engagement and facilitating dialogue on food security issues across the province. Job Description:
Food First NL is seeking a full time Education Manager to lead education activities for the organization. Working with the Executive Director, the Education Manager will be responsible for:
(1) Leading Food First NL Educational Programs, and ensuring program deliverables are met, including:
Children and Youth Educational Program, including overseeing administration of the Farm to School NL Project
Supporting food security educational efforts of community organizations across NL, including administration of the Northern Peninsula Project
Providing presentations, leading workshops, hosting display booths, etc. as part of Food First NLs ongoing food security educational initiatives
(2) Assisting in the development, updating, promotion, and supporting the use of Food First NLs food security resources
(3) Supporting planning and promotion of Food First NL events (including educational, networking, and fundraising events)
(4) Explore funding opportunities and develop applications to support and advance Food First NLs educational programs
(5) Providing direction and support to other education staff as required.
(6) Other duties as required
Skills & Qualifications:
Degree or diploma in a related discipline
2-3 years practical experience in a community education role
Understanding of food security and food systems issues, as well as interest in and experience with food skills
Experience working with a non-profit organization an asset
Strong verbal and written communications skills, including a strong ability to lead hands-on food skills workshops, presentations, and host display booths at large public events
Strong ability to network and collaborate with stakeholders or various ages and across sectors
Strong ability to use computer software, including Microsoft Office
Must have valid drivers license and be willing to travel as required. Access to a personal vehicle an asset
Compensation: Commensurate with relevant experience
Expected Employment Start Date: June 2016
Hours of work: Full time at 35 hours/week. Successful candidate must be willing to work flexible hours, as the Education Manager may be expected to work some evenings and weekends.
Contract Duration: This is a maternity leave replacement, expecting to run from June 2016-July 2017 (approximately)
Location: This position will be based out of Food First NL St. Johns office
