Position: Permaculture, Trails & Event Programming (4 positions)

The Deanery Project is hiring FOUR students this summer to work on our permaculture gardens, woodland trails and summer programming including natural building, arts and bicycling programs.
Where: The Deanery Project, 751 West Ship Harbour Rd., Lower Ship Harbour, Nova Scotia
When:
One x 14 week position is available immediately. ($10.70/hr @ 30 hrs/wk)
Two x 8 week positions are available beginning June 13 ($10.70/hr @ 36 hrs/wk)
One x 9 wk position (partnership/Youth Conservation Corps) Jn 27 ($$11.50/hr @35 hrs/wk)
NOTES
Applicants must be under 30, registered as full-time students and returning to school in the fall.
The successful candidate will have a passion for the outdoors, love working with their hands, be flexible, resourceful and able to work independently.
Should be willing to live at or near the Deanery Project in Ship Harbour.
Organizational Background
Each of the student summer jobs will be contributing to growth and development of the Deanery Project a not-for-profit rural learning centre focused on the environment, sustainability, arts, and community development. Located 60 km east of Halifax on the Eastern Shore, the beautiful 25 acre property includes Acadian forest, woodland trails, fields, and ocean front. It is situated at the heart of three huge protected wilderness areas.
The organization builds skills for healthy communities and a healthy environment by creating a wide variety of learning opportunities. Summer programming focuses on nature, arts, culture, and sustainable living, with the intention of celebrating and strengthening our local communities.
Tasks and responsibilities
The Deanery Project is an exciting, creative place to work. Summer job duties are varied and would be suitable for students from many disciplines. Students should have strong communication skills and enjoy working people of all ages, be flexible, resourceful and able to work independently. They must be love being outdoors, be flexible, and be willing to work weekends and/or evenings as needed.
Some of the job duties include:
Developing and delivery of summer events and workshops with support from Deanery Project staff
Assisting with communication and promotion, reporting and evaluation of programs
Documenting programs (video/photography or audio)
Researching and production of informational materials
Assisting with development and maintenance of our 5 km of interpretive woodland trails including construction of brush fences, garden beds, rainwater collection system, and a native tree nursery.
The employee will be trained, and gain hands-on experience in applied permaculture principals, natural building, plant identification, public engagement, communication as well as program design.
They will be part of an energetic team, committed to sustainable community development and the on-going transformation of an old summer camp into one of Atlantic Canadas leading environmental demonstration and learning centres.
