Field Technician, Energy Assessor
The Opportunity & Qualifications:
Summerhill is exploring the opportunity of building the capacity of our project management team in Halifax, Nova Scotia and invite strong, bright, entrepreneurial candidates with over two (2) years of training and/or experience in the energy efficiency or building science industries. Summerhill operates in Atlantic Canada, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and the north eastern United States.
A highly qualified candidate would demonstrate knowledge in the following categories:
Energy systems management
Renewable energy systems
Energy auditing of commercial and residential buildings
Energy modeling software (i.e. HOT2000) and field equipment
Training and certifications that are considered assets include Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), Energy Sustainability Engineering Technology (ESET), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), or comparable designations. Experience in skilled trades, such as electricians or building construction tradespeople, is also considered an asset.
Additional desirable qualifications include:
A strong technical understanding of building science, energy reduction, building energy audits, construction technology and practices, building services and renewable energy technologies.
Ability to communicate and engage companies at all levels on technical issues and to translate complex concepts into user friendly language
Experience in and passion for reducing energy use and sustainability issues in new and/or existing buildings
Excellent communication skills
Strong team player able to work closely with colleagues in a small organization that relies on coordinating programs and priorities
Role & Responsibilities:
The Field Technician performs commercial and residential energy audits, including conducting various building envelope tests. These duties include:
Plan and schedule projects and audit methodology and procedures
Inspect and analyze homes and building structures, heating systems, ventilation, air conditioning, water, and industrial processes to ensure energy use is optimal
Assess process equipment and machinery for energy consumption
Use testing equipment to identify energy conservation potential
Analyze energy consumption for residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial customers
Educate users on energy-use habits and potentials for consumption and cost reduction
Analyze audit documentation and data and prepare a report of audit findings
Present audit findings to clients
Prepare cost estimates for potential retrofits
Data entry
Make recommendations for, coordinate, and participate in construction of retrofit measures and energy efficiency upgrades
