Dark Skies in Ship Harbour bring out masses to view Perseid Meteor Shower at annual festival

For two evenings this weekend, the Eastern Shore will be a gathering place for people looking to appreciate the magic of the seas and night skies. On the evenings of August 11th and 12th the Perseid Meteor Shower will be visible in the night sky, and the bioluminescent algae found in Ship Harbour will be glowing brightly, providing dazzling nightime viewing for those attending The Deanery Project’s annual “SeaLight, SkyLight” festival. In addition to providing optimal dark sky viewing of the meteor shower and phosphorescence, the festival will be host to music, performances, arts & crafts for children, and educational presentations and interactive activites covering astronomy and marine biology.

The festival is part of a wider effort by The Deanery Project to encourage visitors to the 100 Wild Islands, and increase awareness around issues pertaining to environmental conservation on the Eastern Shore.
