International Development week is almost here! This year we are excited to welcome Sally Armstrong as our keynote speaker at two events. International Development Week (IDW) aims to encourage Canadian women and men-especially youth-to learn more about and contribute actively to international development. IDW also highlights what Canada and Canadians are doing to make a better world. It was first created by Global Affairs Canada.

For many Canadians, as global citizens, this will be an opportunity to talk about what they have done to help reduce poverty in the world. Since its inception in 1991, IDW has been held during the first full week of February. This year, we are focusing on Agenda 2030 and the SDGs, looking specifically at Goal #5 - Gender Equality. http://bit.ly/IDW2017



We invite you help us celebrate at our luncheon and hear from speakers Sally Armstrong and Masuma Khan who will address issues related to gender equity and violence against women. This event will bring Atlantic Council for International Cooperation members and other International NGOs, local women's organizations, academics, and students together to provide an opportunity for networking, information exchange and celebration.



We also invite you to attend a reception and talk, Women as Agents of Change, co-hosted by ACIC and the Global Health Office, where Sally Armstrong will address global health and the SDGs.

Uprising: A New Age is Dawning for Every Mother's Daughter features Sally and Masuma Khan at Delta Halifax for a catered lunch discussion with local non-profit displays.



Who: Sally Armstrong  (Human rights activist, journalist and award-winning author covering stories about women and girls in zones of conflict all over the world. Three-time Amnesty International award winner, and member of the International Women's Commission at the UN) and Masuma Asad Khan (IDS student at Dalhousie University, Campaigns and Outreach Coordinator for the Equity and Accessibility Office for the Dalhousie Student Union and Dalhousie Muslim Student Association's president)
