Position: Communications and Membership Officer
Organization: Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC)
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Term: 4 months, 32 hours/week (contract position), August 28 - December 15, 2017
Pay: $37,142 per annum, (pro-rated at 80%) for a 16 week contract

Background:
The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) is a coalition of individuals, organizations, and institutions working in the Atlantic region, which are committed to achieving global sustainability in a peaceful and healthy environment, with social justice, human dignity, and participation for all. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications and Membership Officer will work closely with ACIC staff, members and other stakeholders in the planning, coordination and delivery of membership services and communications. The ideal candidate will have experience working with social media platforms, websites and organizing events. As a key member of a small staff team, they must be able to work independently on a variety of tasks, and to motivate others to participate.
Scope of Work:
Responsibilities include:
Communications
* Create, manage and update website, e-bulletin and social media content highlighting ACIC and members' initiatives, opportunities, key sectoral issues, research, and resources
* Coordinate the development and distribution of various communications materials as required, including announcements, blogs, news releases, annual reports, promotional materials and newsletters
* Coordinate and/or support other ACIC staff in the development of key messages and communications tools and materials for programs, campaigns and events
* Ensure ongoing coherence between ACIC's communications strategy and all ACIC programming
* Coordinate communications technology at public events, such as photography, video, etc.
* Manage budget lines of relevant communications and programming
* Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of key communications activities and report on outcomes
* Project monitoring and evaluation, including data tracking, documentation of good practices and lessons learned, and contribution to reports
Membership
* Organizing and promoting capacity-building trainings and networking opportunities with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals and ACIC's Strategic Plan
* Maintain the membership database and track finances related to membership fees
* Liaise with members and conduct outreach to potential members on an on-going basis
* Support the Membership Committee and Board of Directors in reviewing and maintaining membership policies and procedures, as necessary
* Implement annual capacity-building training plan - liaising with consultants, developing contracts, organizing and promoting workshops, and adhere to budget
* Organize, and attend where possible, networking events in collaboration with provincial representatives
* Provide leadership, support and supervision to Provincial Coordinators
* Create and lead 2018 Symposium Ideas Committee through meetings and mandate
* Form and lead 2018 International Development Week Planning Committee through meetings and mandate
The Communications and Membership Officer is also responsible for:
* Actively participating in staff meetings and providing input towards the development of other organizational activities, operational practices and policies as required
* Providing general administrative support
* Representing ACIC at events or external meetings, when requested
* Responding to general telephone and email inquiries
* Other duties, as deemed necessary
Desired Qualifications:
Post-secondary credential, related to the job requirements
A minimum of three years recent and related experience, preferably within international cooperation, not-for-profit or public engagement spheres
Knowledge of global development issues and concept of global citizenship
Strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups
Commitment to open communication and collaboration in a team environment
Clear, engaging and effective written communications skills and an ability to adapt to various audiences
Demonstrated good judgment and discretion
Demonstrated ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, monitor progress towards goals, and track information
Demonstrated initiative and creativity
Ability to communicate in both official languages an asset
Experience using social media and web platforms (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Square Space)
Experience creating promotional materials with Adobe Suite and Canva
Experience in editing, layout, and publishing of newsletters and other documents
Experience organizing logistics for workshops and networking event
Ability to work independently
Excellent organizational and time management skills
