Call for Course Developer to Redevelop Online Horticulture Courses

Project Overview
Open Learning and Educational Support (OpenEd) is recruiting course developers who can support the redevelopment of several courses in the Horticulturist, Creating Landscapes, and Growing Plants for Profit certificate programs. We are seeking candidates with combined expertise in their respective field and a demonstrated commitment to teaching, learning, and student success.
The OpenEd horticultural studies program consists of 39 courses which are part of seven certificate programs and two diploma programs. All courses are delivered completely online and cover a variety of subjects including horticulture, nursery production, greenhouse management, landscape design, golf course maintenance, and urban agriculture. Our courses are designed for industry professionals, as well as, home gardeners.
Description of Courses
We are seeking Course Developers for the following courses:
Business Management Principles
Introduction to Soils and Plant Growth
Growing Plants
Weed Management in Horticulture
Landscape Design II
Arboriculture
Ornamental Plant Protection
Arboriculture
Plant Propagation
Greenhouse Management
Nursery Production
Commercial Greenhouse Crop Production
Computer Assisted Drafting
Responsibilities
We are looking for candidates who can help improve the overall quality of the course(s) by working the Distance Education development team to;
Design and develop an online course as subject matter expert (SME) representing the focused area of content associated with a specific course;
Update existing content and develop any new content with rich and relevant real-life examples and practise case studies;
Work with the assigned Distance Learning Program Specialist to develop new learning activities, and assessments;
Gather new visual aids and record original multi-media to enhance student learning.
Qualifications
Demonstrated expertise in the subject matter i.e. a combination of academic credentials (e.g. MSc, or BSc in Plant Sciences) and industry related experience;
Experience in online instruction or diploma/degree in adult education with skills in curriculum development is a definite asset.
Essential Skills and Abilities
Passionate about learning and teaching;
Flexible, resourceful, creative, and self-motivated;
Excellent organizational and time management skills;
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
Capacity to deliver within given deadlines;
Familiarity with, and ability to, access academic and community resources;
Competent with Microsoft Office suite including use of shared files;
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the assigned Distance Learning Program Specialist;
Detail oriented, ability to edit and revise work as necessary.

Job Location
Course development work can be completed remotely as long as you are available to attend meetings during normal business hours.
