Green Corps is UNA-Canada’s innovative new youth employment programme designed to bridge talented, yet un- and underemployed, Canadian youth to meaningful employment to ignite Canada’s green economy. Green Corps participants will undertake four or six-month work-integrated learning placements with various companies, governments, associations, universities and civil society organizations across Canada, but particularly our cities of focus: Vancouver, Whitehorse, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax. Green Corps participants may assist their employer organizations and communities in reducing their environmental footprint and increasing sustainability. Additionally, Green Corps participants may engage their communities over the course of their placements, helping to identify and address environmental “quick wins” in their communities and workplaces.

We are currently looking to fill positions starting between end of March (6 month placements) and end of May (4 month placements). This timing is ideal for soon-to-be or recent grads!

Getting that all-important first job! There is no substitute for practical, real-world work experience.
• Gain valuable work experience and develop new professional skills;
• Build your network with like-minded professionals from diverse professional and academic backgrounds; and
• Develop a more nuanced understanding of issues related to environmental sustainability, natural resource management and green growth opportunities in a Canadian and international context.

To be part of the Green Corps, youth must:
• be between the ages of 18 and 30 (inclusive) at the time of intake/selection;
• Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons who have been granted refugee status in Canada;
• be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;
• not be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits at the time of the placement (*Please note that the cancellation of EI benefits may cause some delay in the hiring process);
• not be full-time students or co-op students;
• not have participated in a youth project or programme funded by the Federal government within the last 6 months;
• must be able to commit to a full-time job placement;
• Unemployed or underemployed.

*Note: Underemployment exists when employed persons are A) working part-time, or B) working in a field that does not utilize their academic qualifications, thus, not attaining their full employment level.

Green Corps is securing a wide variety of employers at the moment. Correspondingly, UNA-Canada encourages applicants with diverse academic backgrounds and professional aspirations to apply. Although the minimum requirement is to have completed high school, applicants with college, CEGEP, diploma, bachelor, masters and PhD degrees are also welcome to apply. Some fields that Green Corps has positions for are: Marketing and communications, engineering, community engagement/education, information technology, art and music, trade/technical, business/economics, research, policy and governance, law, and the sciences to name a few.

To apply, participants must fill the online application form before March 27th, 2017: https://unpp.wufoo.com/forms/w1vish6y1w0cgf1/

*Please note that all the candidates who applied in a previous call for application must reapply to still be considered for a position.
