About the Organization

Trips by Transit is a non-profit organization that takes weekly wilderness trips via Halifax Transit. We promote sustainability, accessibility, and connection to place, community, and ourselves. 

The Position

The student chosen for this position would be tasked with assisting in carrying out and advertising trips to local natural wilderness spaces in HRM via Halifax Transit. These trips should be open to any member of the community who wishes to attend them. They should be able to engage with community members and organizations on issues including public/active transit accessibility, preserving local green space and pay special attention to where these issues connect. 

The ideal candidate would have experience with photo and video production, leadership, and strong independent working skills. The student will have to coordinate and lead trips with up to 40 people. When not organizing trips, the student will work on growth of the organization, particularly through social media and grant applications.

Experience with the following are assets:
• social media and website
• video and photo production
• guiding tours/leading outdoor experiences
• independent, self-directed work
• passion for nature, adventure, and sustainable living
• grant writing and organizational finances

Individuals will be encouraged to pursue their own passions while in the position. You may wish to provide examples of projects you would like to take on in the position.

Compensation
Compensation and hours for this position are not yet fixed. The job will cummulatively work between 215 - 420 hours at $10.85/hour. The total hours and schedule can be flexible for the right applicant. This position to start May 22th. 

We require the following of any potential employees for this position: 
• Have certified First Aid Training
• Be registered or enrolled at a post-secondary institution in the upcoming fall
• Be living in Halifax, NS, for the length of the position
