Role: Executive Committee member
Organization: Sierra Club Canada Foundation - Atlantic Canada Chapter
Location: Atlantic Canada

The Sierra Club Canada Foundation (SCCF) is a national charitable foundation that fulfills its mission to protect and preserve our natural environment.

The SCCF Atlantic Canada Chapter works to empower people to protect, restore, and enjoy a healthy safe planet. We work to bring the concerns of Atlantic Canadians to the attention of regional and national leaders. In addition to supporting a variety of national and local campaigns, the SCCF-ACC runs current programs focusing on:
• children’s nature education
• preventing and raising awareness around wildlife collisions
• citizen science around water quality and pollution
• marine ecosystem conservation in the Gulf of St Lawrence
• exploring and expanding urban greenspaces
• supporting renewable energy development

The Executive Committee (ExComm) plays a key role in the Sierra Club and acts as the decision-making and governing body for the Atlantic Canada Chapter (ACC). ExComm members give direction on programs, provide strategic direction, and assist with fundraising and communications at the Chapter level.

Currently, SCCF-ACC is seeking applications from Atlantic Canadians who are committed, energetic, and passionate about environmental activism. We especially are looking for individuals with experience and skills in (or willingness to learn about):
• strategic planning for not-for-profits
• communications, particularly social media and web-based communications. Experience with facebook analytics, graphic design, MailChimp and/or Wordpress are assets
• fundraising and writing grant applications
• developing relationships with sector interests including scientists, government, media, Foundations, community groups, or student groups
• preparing reports and/or meeting minutes

ExComm members are expected to attend monthly 1-1.5 hour virtual meetings and an annual face-to-face meeting (which may involve travel). ExComm members also perform additional tasks such as supporting fundraising campaigns, producing communications, and liaising with program stakeholders which may amount to 2-6 hours a month.

If you are interested in being a member of the ACC Executive Committee, please email:
