Position: Adventure 3(65) Filmmakers

Job Description

Trips By Transit is a federally-registered NPO that focuses on connecting people to their community, nature, and facilitating deeper self-connection and self-reflection through guided nature trips via Halifax Transit. TBT has recently launched the Adventure 3(65) Series where we will be hosting 65 adventures in Halifax, NS over the span of 365 days, making an adventure out of every one of HRM's 65 bus routes from the #1 - #401.

The Adventure 3(65) Filmmaker(s) will be attending Trip By Transit’s adventures in the Adventure 3(65) series where we are taking every bus route in Halifax and creating unique and engaging video content to be published through social media outlets.

Videos will be between 30 seconds to 2 minutes based on the content and length of the adventure. They will be largely up to the discretion and creativity of the filmmaker(s) yet will have certain aspects of necessary content (including sponsors, etc.).

This position is fantastic for a new and passionate filmmaker who has a deep love for adventure and the outdoors and capturing it’s beauty. Applicants should have some experience and are required to submit samples of their work. Additionally, applicants must have the camera equipment that they require for the position.

Compensation

The Adventure 3(65) Filmmaker is a volunteer honourarium position. Filmmaker(s) will be compensated on an honourarium rather than wage basis.
• Half-day (4 hour) Adventure + editing: $75
• Full-day (8 hour) Adventure + editing: $125

Duties and Responsibilities
• Attending Trips By Transit’s trips as part of the Adventure 3(65) series on a weekly or bi-weekly basis
• Attending a monthly adventure planning meeting to both provide input on adventures and to insure availability to attend and film adventure
• Film video content during adventures
• Produce a 30 second to 2 minute video within 7 days of an adventure
• Check-in with TBT’s Adventure Coordinator, Executive Director, and Board of Directors when necessary

Skills and Competencies 
• Experience capturing moments and adventures through film
• Ability to effectively use a camera and related equipment
• Ability to work with a team and take direction and feedback
• Creativity and unique artistic style
• Experience with video editing

The right applicant does not need to have experience and competencies at all of the aforementioned skills. The hiring committee will give preference to applicants who show a strong passion for the mission and goals of Trips By Transit.

Structure

The Adventure 3(65) Filmmaker(s) will be working primarily with the Adventure Coordinator and Executive Director of Trips By Transit to receive direction and guidance as well as give feedback and advice. The position may occasionally work with the TBT Board of Directors.

The position is largely self-guided and will require an estimated 6-8 hours of work on half-day adventures and 10-12 hours of work on full-day adventures depending on editing speed in addition to occasional check-in meetings.

Applicants must be able to commit for at least 6 months. This position can extend until up to the end of August 2018.

Trips By Transit is accepting applicants with varying availabilities and time commitments. Please specify in your cover letter your preference for schedule between the following options:
• Bi-weekly video producing - once every other week you will attend an adventure and will produce video content within 7 days.
• Weekly video producing - once every week you will attend an adventure and will produce video content within 7 days.
• Monthly video producing - once every month you will attend an adventure and will produce video content within 7 days.
