11-month term position

The Opportunity

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), a leader in Canadian habitat conservation, is looking for a confident, energetic and dedicated professional to join our team as an Education Specialist.

As a member of the DUC Education Team, under supervision, you will manage, develop, market and deliver environmental education programs which support DUC’s provincial education goals in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador.

You need to be an enthusiastic team player – a self-starter who can work with anyone, is capable of seeing the bigger picture and enjoys thinking out of the box. You are conservation-minded, self-motivated and can manage numerous projects on tight deadlines. Your team-oriented nature and strong interpersonal skills enable you to build solid relationships with stakeholders.

You are innovative and creative and welcome the challenge to develop and ensure the delivery of high quality education programs. These skills will aid you in overseeing the secondary school based partnership program, Wetland Centres of Excellence, the elementary school based program, Project Webfoot and the interpretive program at the Wetland Centre in the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park.

Your three years of experience and directly related knowledge make you the ideal candidate for this one-year term position, which is located in Shubenacadie, NS at the Wildlife Park with flexibility of a remote office nearby.

Requirements
• Undergraduate degree in education, environmental studies/science or natural resources
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Above average organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to write proposals and program reports
• Understanding & familiarity with the maritime school curriculum guidelines
• Experience in managing a budget
• Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs
• Valid driver’s license as this position requires travel within Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
• Fundraising experience would be considered an asset
• Bilingualism is considered an asset.
• Previous experience working for a conservation or environmental organization would also be considered an asset.
