Position: Policy Analyst and Organizational Support Coordinator
Type: summer job / summer student position
Organization: Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

8-week term position

*NSPIRG is a social and environmental justice resource centre operating out of the Dalhousie Student Union Building.*

Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Review current NSPIRG policies and grant applications using an anti-oppressive lens
• Make suggestions to further align NSPIRG policies with our mandate of reconciliation and anti-oppressive justice-based practice
• Including but not limited to: gender neutral language, accessibility, accountability, etc
• Drafting new policies and amendments where needed
• Assist with development of “Committee Standards”, structural guidance for implementing effective NSPIRGs sub-committees
• Related tasks as determined by NSPIRG upon consultation with employee

Skills and Assets
• Education or experience in political science or other policy-related coursework
• Understanding of anti-oppressive practice within the non-profit sector
• Practical understanding of social-justice framework as it relates to policy development
• Passion for promoting equity and creating space for marginalized communities

Rate of Pay: $660 bi-weekly, approximate hours 20-30 per week. Flexibility available.

(a) be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

(b) have been registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;

(c) intend to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;

(d) be a student in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program;

(e) be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;

(f) is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations

* International students are not eligible.
