Position: Digital/Social Media Manager
Organization: Alternatives Journal
Location: anywhere in Canada

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

DURATION: 3 month contract

TYPE: Part-time contract

LOCATION: Work can be conducted remotely, or out of an A\J bureau office at Trent University.

Alternatives Journal (A\J) strives to be Canada’s most respected and valuable non-partisan environmental media voice.


Alternatives Journal (A\J) educates and connects Canadian communities on environmental issues, through inspiring storytelling, research sharing, and collaboration.

How We Do It:
• Publish non-partisan news and critical analysis connected to the most pressing and relevant environmental topics of our time.
• Make complex stories accessible to a broad cross-section of Canadians, through a range of mediums.
• Provide vital capacity, tools, and a platform for Canada’s environmental communities.


A\J is poised to relaunch alternativesjournal.ca, and you will have the opportunity to help us promote the new site, and its new initiatives. In this role you will be leading the non-editorial efforts to develop A\J’s digital presence and traction, including the running of all social media channels and digital ad campaigns, and the development of mutually beneficial digital partnerships with like-minded organizations. You will have a proven ability to independently manage multiple tasks with competing priorities and deadlines.

• Develop following on and manage all social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
• Promote relaunch of the A\J website
• Identify and negotiate cross-posting relationships with key partners and stakeholders
• Develop & manage Facebook Ads, Twitter Ads, and Google Ads campaigns


• Social media best practices
• Direct experience running social media channels and digital ad campaigns

• Solid understanding of environmental issues
• Connections within the eNGO community
• Experience with Buffer


$4,000 for the full contract.
