Position: Project Manager

About the organization:
The Ocean Tracking Network (OTN, http://oceantrackingnetwork.org/) is an established and rapidly growing international marine and freshwater monitoring platform that focuses on tracking the movements of aquatic animals in the context of ocean conditions and climate change. OTN is one of 17 Canadian National Research Facilities supported by the Major Science Initiatives (MSI) funding program of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).

About the position:
Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, the Project Manager will coordinate existing projects and operational activities and contribute to developing and implementing methods to best manage projects and track project success and deliverables. Key responsibilities include:
• Assist in managing the OTN global equipment loaner program, including ensuring contracts and legal agreements are up to date. and maintaining positive relationships with network partners.
• Assist in organizing and carrying out activities associated with all current grants and contracts including, but not limited to, arranging logistics, agendas, and written documentation for steering committees.
• Coordinate outreach and engagement opportunities, including the OTN annual symposium and community events and workshops.
• Assist in the preparation and writing of new grant applications to various funding agencies.
• Assist senior management with the coordination and completion of annual reports to funders, for the main MSI program and all currently held research grants and contracts.
• Document project progress in conjunction with funding expectations and deliverables.

Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree in biology, oceanography, environmental management, or a related field, with a minimum of five years’ related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• An understanding of major granting agencies and policies, with experience in the grant application process.
• Experience coordinating interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaborative projects.
• Ability to work within tight deadlines, manage conflicting priorities, and work independently.
• Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
• Fluent in English with exceptional grammar and punctuation.
• Familiarity using a wide variety of digital platforms such as project management software (e.g., Podio) and cloud-based storage (e.g., OneDrive, Google).
• Familiarity with the Canadian and global ocean research and management landscape.
• Experience working with academics, research administrators, and familiarity with institutional procurement policies.

Compensation:

$55,000-$65,000 per annum, 37.5 hours a week. This is a grant-paid position, with strong possibility of renewal based on funding. Dalhousie University supports a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
