Position: Director of Communications
Organization: ALUS Canada
Location: anywhere in Canada / home office

ALUS is seeking an energetic, innovative communications leader who is passionate about building digital strategies and thrives on working in a highly creative, collaborative and co-operative culture

This is an incredible opportunity to join an established Canadian not-for-profit that runs a community-developed, farmer-delivered conservation program that supports farmers and ranchers to build and maintain nature-based solutions on their land.

As the organization's go-to trusted communications advisor you will lead a small but growing team charged with defining the ALUS brand promise, developing engaging digital strategies, building community outreach programs and telling compelling stories that inspire individuals and corporations to action.

The ideal candidate is passionate about digital communication, thrives on tackling complex challenges, loves working collaboratively to build new initiatives and is comfortable dealing with ambiguity.

Reporting directly to the CEO, every day you will:
• lead the development, implementation and execution of annual strategic communications plans to deliver results-oriented and measurable communications that support ALUS' stated strategic priorities and business goals
• direct and inspire the Communications team (including staff and suppliers) to deliver on time and on budget external communication collaterals, government relations and fundraising materials, corporate communications and internal/employee messaging
• execute initiatives to grow ALUS awareness through media relations, advertising and social campaigns, and community outreach and engagement
• support fundraising teams by developing innovative communication initiatives that celebrate donors, corporate sponsors and associated projects while meeting ALUS' strategic objectives
• effectively steward the brand to ensure the organization’s image and messaging is clearly and consistently represented by all ALUS community members and play an instrumental role in anticipating and assessing reputational risk
• develop meaningful measurement vehicles to track and report results for all communications efforts
• serve as ALUS’ expert for current best practices in content creation, digital strategy, media relations, crisis communications and all things related to public-facing and internal communications.
• lead the “Content Creation Machine” project-based team, including communications staff and regional ALUS Hub Managers
• deliver a multi-lingual strategy to raise the organization’s profile worldwide

Here's what will help you thrive
• 10+ years’ experience in progressively senior roles leading communications and digital strategies and delivering proven results for either corporate, non-profit or charitable organizations
• a passion for leading, coaching and developing teams and coworkers to exceed individual and collective objectives
• excellent presentation and written communication skills – you are committed to telling engaging, memorable and impactful stories
• experience managing complex, long-term projects with many phases and approvals processes, on time and on budget.
• cultural fit: you have a collaborative, creative, can-do attitude – you’re at home working in a multi-faceted, deadline-driven workplace
• strong analytical, critical thinking, influencing skills and financial acumen
• you have high-quality standards and ensure that all deliverables exceed expectations and that your team is delivering the highest level of value in each interaction.
• comfortable leveraging digital communications tools (WordPress, MailChimp, Hootsuite) to track metrics, report results, and course correct as needed
• minimum undergraduate degree in business, marketing or a related discipline; MBA valued, but not required
• fluent in English and French
