Summary of the Position: 

The Clean Education & Engagement team’s focus is to develop and deliver programming that fosters awareness, appreciation, and empathy for the natural world. We equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools to make educated decisions, and show them that they have the power to make a difference in their own lives, workplaces, and communities.

Our team is growing, and we are looking for an experienced facilitator to lead a new Professional Development initiative aimed at supporting educators in teaching about climate change.

Reporting to the Manager of Education Initiatives, the Professional Development (PD) Lead will be responsible for the development and delivery of engaging, participatory PD Workshops for educators across Nova Scotia. In addition, the PD Lead will play a large role in collaboratively creating a Teacher’s Resource on Climate Change, which will include both research, writing, and consulting with educators, scientists, Indigenous knowledge holders, and other experts in the field. The PD Lead will be comfortable and familiar with the Nova Scotia school curriculum, and have excellent, concise writing and editing skills.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
• Develop Professional Development workshops for educators across all grade levels
• Facilitate and deliver PD workshops for diverse groups of educators (including formal, non-formal, pre-service, First Nations, etc) both online and in-person across Nova Scotia
• Lead the collaborative creation of a Teacher’s Resource on Climate Education, including the editing and consolidating existing activities and resources
• Collect and analyze feedback to better future program delivery
• Remain current on both emerging climate science, best practices for climate education, and changing curriculum
• Support the Project Coordinator in promoting, recruiting, and scheduling PD workshops
• Assist the Program Development Lead in developing teacher-facing resources to support all of Clean’s Education programming

Education and Required Qualifications:
• Post-secondary degree, Bachelor of Education considered an asset
• Experience in a classroom setting, or, experience facilitating/leading workshops, including graphic facilitation and working with diverse groups
• Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented approach
• Comfortable and familiar with curriculum documents and lesson plans
• French language abilities considered an asset
• Positive, outgoing, and able to work independently or in a team

Working Conditions:

Additional hours, or time outside of the normal work hours, may be required to meet operational requirements of planning and delivering specific projects at specific times of the year. Travel may also be required.
