Position: Communications Lead
Organization: CLIMAtlantic
Location: applicants should live in Atlantic Canada

CLIMAtlantic Inc. is a new non-profit organization that is part of a national network of climate services centres (see the Canadian Centre for Climate Services). CLIMAtlantic will focus on creating a strong Atlantic Canada network generating a wealth of information sharing in this space, in addition to supporting specific unique place-based work. CLIMAtlantic will work with all regional and local actors to ensure that this will become a strong network where collaboration is supported, data and tools are easily accessible, and services will be provided by local and regional partners as much as possible.

We are looking for an ambitious and energetic Communications Specialist to join our team! In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to apply a wide range of communications skills and approaches to help communicate effectively and strategically. If you are an enthusiastic, outgoing and energetic person, and you love all things communications and are interested in climate change we would love to meet with you!

Skills and Qualifications

Candidates must clearly reflect the following skills and experience in their application:
• College or university degree in communications, journalism, public relations or marketing, or equivalent experience
• A combination of 5 years of relevant work experience in journalism, communications, media relations, marketing or a related field
• Experience developing and executing communications strategy and/or plans
• Attention to detail and a commitment to personal excellence
• A superb command of the English language (reading, writing and speaking)
• Proven skills and experience in media relations, digital engagement, popular communications, technical and copy editing, social media, online publishing and multimedia
• Excellent editing and popular writing skills in English
• Demonstrated knowledge of CP style and academic grammar and style conventions
• Demonstrated familiarity with various social media tools, platforms (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) and strategies
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and Adobe Creative Suite
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to exercise tact, discretion and sound judgment at all times

Other Valuable Qualifications
• Experience developing, editing and producing multimedia products (audio/video podcasts, audio slideshows, YouTube videos, etc.).
• French language proficiency (speaking and writing)
• Experience working in the non-profit sector, preferably in Atlantic Canada
• Experience in working on climate change and climate adaptation topics
• Commitment to environmental values.

The ideal candidate will be:
• An independent and confident self-starter
• A creative, critical and strategic thinker
• A positive and collaborative team player
• Adept at tailoring communications approaches to suit the intended audience and platforms
• Capable of engaging effectively with remote colleagues (via virtual tools)

Compensation and Benefits
• The salary rate is competitive for a communications professional in the environmental non-profit sector and will be based on skills, experience and qualifications of the successful candidate (range: 40,000 to 50,000).
• This is a full time position.
