With these words, President Joe Biden announced the decision to withdraw United States troops from Afghanistan by September 2021. This panel provides a space to listen to the concerns and aspirations of Afghan women in light of the U.S. announcement.
Five Afghan women from different generations and backgrounds, and serving as government officials, scholars, and representatives of civil society and political parties, will offer their views on the challenges for the security, freedom, and dignity of Afghan communities and Afghan women in particular.

The story in this book offers a look inside the antinuclear movement and its recent successful campaign to ban the bomb. From scrappy organizing to winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 and achieving a landmark UN treaty banning nuclear weapons, Ray Acheson narrates the journey of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons and developments in feminist disarmament activism.
The event is organized by the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace, Science for Peace and WILPF-Canada.

CANADA NOW RANKED 17TH HIGHEST FOR ARMS EXPORTS
According to SIPRI's latest arms transfers report, Canada is ranked 17th highest in the world for arms exports in 2020. The top three countries that Canada exports weapons to are: Saudi Arabia, UAE and Australia (https://www.sipri.org/sites/default/files/2021-03/fs_2103_at_2020_v2.pdf ). Canada does not disclose its arms exports to the United States, if it did, the US would be our first destination. Canada needs an agenda for disarmament.

The Pope has made peace a priority for his papacy. Every January 1st, the Pope gives his World Peace statement. In 2015, he released an important encyclical urging action on climate change. In his Easter address this year, the Pope said "The pandemic is still spreading, while the social and economic crisis remains severe, especially for the poor. Nonetheless - and this is scandalous - armed conflicts have not ended and military arsenals are being strengthened."
