Start Date: Wednesday March 23, 2022
Job Location: Lunenburg, NS with some remote work 
Contract Expectations: Full time, year round; 37.5 hrs/wk; $22/hr; Contract renewed annually in January 
(2 wk vacation plus 2 wks xmas holiday eligible after 6 months; Blue Cross full benefits package covered at 50%, includes spouse / common-law and dependents; overtime is compensated with time in lieu)

Job Overview: 

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will be responsible for the promotion, recruitment, and intake of youth participants to Sea School programs along with managing the day to day operations of the organization including: marketing, communications, office administration, programs logistics, stakeholder relations, and attending promotional and networking events on behalf of the organization.

Candidates can expect to join a crew of enthusiastic outdoor professionals who work to serve a diversity of youth. In this role, you will develop partnerships and relationships with community organizations and families to ensure that youth from a variety of backgrounds and economic circumstances are aware of and can access Sea School programs. Our summer season, starting in April and continuing until September, is our most intensive period, where you can expect to work weekends / evenings and be on call for a portion of July / August. This time period is an ‘all hands on deck’ approach where you and the staff team will support the implementation and logistics of leadership training programs and youth expeditions. For the remaining months of the year, you can expect to focus more on administrative work, youth recruitment, partnership development, and support for day / group programs and march break programs.

All of these duties require strong organization, flexibility, excellent communication skills, responsiveness to unexpected scenarios and commitment to follow through. This role demands proficiency in verbal and written communication, working with diverse groups of individuals and responsiveness in a fast-paced environment.

Job Tasks / Duties:

Recruitment/Intake
• Manage recruitment and outreach efforts for attracting teenage youth to summer expeditions and day programs through a variety of communication methods including: print, PSA’s, social media, newsletters, events/presentations, and workshops;
• Develop partnerships with youth service agencies to create pathways for underrepresented youth to our programs;
• Conduct interviews and medical screening for participants;
• Support engagement of youth in the Sea School’s youth leadership ‘Lead Crew’ program;
• Manage Campbrain Database registration and payments;
• Meet tuition revenue goals and monitor with excel worksheets tools;
• Manage the NSSS website (Wix) and all social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube);
• Design and distribute promotional posters and enrolment packages using InDesign software (or similar);
• Work with and report to a Youth Inclusion and Access Sub-Committee of the Board of Directors;
• Respond to communications/activities using the values and approaches of the Sea School;
• Handle all inquiries within scope of position capacity

Program Support:
• Prepare information required for trip, medicals, emergency contacts, etc.; and communicate this to field staff;
• Assist with all aspects of the start and end of trips (greeting participants, gathering forms, assisting with packing, etc);
• Support and liaise with program coordinator, seasonal staff, participants, parents, volunteers, field staff, community partners, and others ongoing;
• Support boathouse facility maintenance and upkeep;
• Inform the Executive Director and NSSS Staff team of areas of risk or concern;
• Manage feedback, evaluations, and program reports;
• Participate in Emergency Action Protocol training and support on-call logistics for a portion of July / August;
• Perform other duties as program needs arise

Operations:
• Maintain procedure manuals, databases, google drive files, other to ensure consistent performance of routines;
• Support with financial bookkeeping practices as they relate to participant registration and program staff and logistics;
• Support the Executive Director with administrative aspects of fundraising projects and functions;
• File paper and electronic materials accordingly and manage office housekeeping;
• Seek greater role in projects within administrative and other areas of competence;
• Perform other duties as required.

Applicant Prerequisites: 

Experience / Qualifications: 
• Post-secondary education in: communications, public relations, business administration, health promotion, recreation management or bachelor of education
• Experience in nonprofit and /or recreation program / or camp administration
• Experience working directly with youth and vulnerable or underrepresented youth
• Experience in public relations, event –planning and facilitation
• Experience working with Wix website software, Adobe Suite (InDesign and Illustrator) an asset
• Strong understanding of all aspects of Google drive, google docs and social media applications
• Personal / professional experience in sailing, wilderness and or outdoor pursuits an asset

• Comfortable with both hands-on and office / computer related work duties
• Ability to consistently provide a positive and team oriented attitude
• Flexible and adaptable to changes in priorities and / or logistical needs
• Problem solving and creative troubleshooting skills
• Demonstrated ability to respond to and inform on risk with respect to participants and or program logistics

Work Conditions Prerequisites: 
• Valid driver’s license with access to a car for program logistics and travel to meetings
• Own / use a mobile phone (50% of monthly cost will be covered by Sea School)
• Own / access to a laptop (If not, Sea School can provide one)
• Standard First Aid / Wilderness First Aid or willing to acquire this once hired
• Prepared to participate in training and respond to major and minor incidents alongside staff and volunteers
• Prepared to train and develop skills in creative design / marketing tools if not a current skill set (ie. Wix, Adobe Illustrator / InDesign)
• Prepared to work weekends, evenings and periodic 12 hour days (overtime covered as time in lieu) during peak program times in July / August
• Prepared to be ‘on call’ 24 hrs / day for a portion of the program season (training will be provided)
