Time Period: One-year full-time contract (with possibility of extension)
Status: Full-time (35 hrs a week)
Salary: $47,320-$50,960 depending on experience and qualifications

TransCoastal Adaptations (TCA) is a Centre of Expertise for nature-based adaptation to climate change at Saint Mary’s University. Our mission is to help build climate resilient coastal communities and ecosystems by protecting, enhancing, and restoring natural processes through innovative research and collaboration; implementing nature-based adaptation solutions (transcoastaladaptations.com). TransCoastal Adaptations builds on two decades of collaboration and expertise in coastal habitat restoration, climate change vulnerability assessment and adaptation, coastal geomorphology, land use planning and applied research.

About Our Opportunity 

The Project Manager will be based at Saint Mary’s University (SMU), reporting to Dr. Danika van Proosdij, Executive Director of TransCoastal Adaptations Centre for Nature-based Solutions and Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies. The Manager will work alongside TransCoastal Adaptations’ Research Project Manager to oversee the management of, and deliverables related to, research and grant funded projects. Time will be divided between a variety of projects depending on requirements, timelines and urgency for action with an emphasis on the management of the Green Shores(tm) program in Nova Scotia. The Manager will be a member of the core executive team where collaborative decision-making, integrity and shared passion for enhancing sustainability of coastal ecosystems and communities are paramount. The primary responsibilities of the Project Manager will include communication between project partners, financial management and reporting, coordination of project deliverables, HR and payroll oversight as required, website design and maintenance, and stakeholder engagement/ communication.

Key Areas of Responsibility: 
• Oversee collaboration between TCA and external partners and collaborators to ensure project milestones, deliverables and contractual requirements are met and proactively identify challenges and implement strategies to mitigate risks;
• Monitor and track finances to ensure that all elements of the project are operating within assigned budgets (adjust as needed in consultation with the Project PIs) and satisfy financial reporting requirements from government and industry funders;
• Oversee financial management of projects (with support from SMU financial officer) and reporting of in-kind and cash contributions from project partners and collaborators as outlined in contribution agreements;
• Track project milestones and coordinate all project deliverables, for submission to project funders as outlined in the contribution agreement;’ Assist with completing final technical reports as required;
• Write grants and other funding proposals;
• Liaise and facilitate knowledge transfer with project partners, government departments, and TCA members;
• Lead technical committees and working groups (coordinating meetings, working with municipal partners, and understanding local challenges and opportunities);
• Plan and deliver Green Shores L1 and L2 training with assistance from the Stewardship Centre for British Columbia (SCBC) and TCA’s Executive Director;
• Interview, hire, and supervise staff and students as required;
• Oversee and assist with the development of communication materials including website and social media for the projects;
• Coordinate logistics for community/stakeholder meetings including notification, venue, facilitation and follow-up;

Position Requirements/ Qualifications: 
• Completion of post-graduate education in a related field such as geography, environmental science, land use planning, resource management, climate change or cognate discipline considered an asset; or completion of bachelor’s degree education plus 4 years of related experience;
• Minimum 2 years of related experience in project delivery, coordination of a multi-disciplinary research team, budget tracking and financial management and reporting;
• Must have strong organizational and time management skills;
• Must be highly motivated, independent and hard-working;
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate and work within a multi-disciplinary research team;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and engage diverse stakeholders and rightsholders including NGOs, rural landowners, planners, scientists, First Nations communities and decision makers;
• In-depth understanding of climate change impacts and adaptation in coastal regions is an asset;
• Experience working with First Nations Communities is considered an asset;
• NGO experience considered an asset;
• Position is based at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, flexible work opportunities available but some in-person work required;
• Must be a Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada;
• Must have a valid NS drivers license.
