Title: Communications & Social Media Manager
Reporting to: The Climate Reality Project Canada’s Executive Director
Organization: The Climate Reality Project Canada 
Workplace: remotely, from anywhere in Canada

Start date: Monday April 19th 2022
Contract length: Indeterminate, permanent position
Schedule: 35 hours work per week, from Monday to Thursday, generally between 9:00 and 18:00. Our office is closed on Friday. Exceptions apply for special events and webinars that occasionally take place on evenings and/or weekends.
Remuneration: Annual salary according to the organization’s salary policy for category 3 positions (starting at 22$/hour, commensurate with experience).

Who We Are

Founded and chaired by Nobel Laureate and former US Vice President Al Gore, The Climate Reality Project is dedicated to catalyzing a global solution to the climate crisis by making urgent action a necessity across every level of society. The organization has branches in 11 countries, including Canada, and over 42,000 volunteer Climate Reality Leaders. Over 1,600 of those Climate Reality Leaders (CRLs) are in Canada.

The Canadian branch was established in Montreal in 2007 as a charitable organization, and has its own initiatives tailored to the Canadian context. We believe education is the key to the success of the climate movement. By spreading knowledge pertaining to climate science and by teaching citizens how to be effective communicators on the topic, we are empowering people to become impactful catalysts for change in their communities.

What We’re Looking For

The Climate Reality Project Canada is looking for a Communications & Social Media Manager who will provide leadership and guidance for the organization to support citizen-led climate action, anchored in a collaborative and ambitious approach to solve the climate crisis through public policy literacy and accountability. This position will play a critical role in advancing climate education and action for our CRLs, and our Hub and Campus Corps members across Canada through effective communication. You will capture the organization’s various programs and projects with various communication tools to amplify their success and to ensure their alignment with the organization’s strategic plan and overarching objectives. The selected candidate will work 35 hours per week, typically over five days but making allowances for flexibility required due to travel, work commitments, or other specific circumstances.

You are passionate about the mission of the Climate Reality Project to empower citizens from all paths of life and grassroots movements through a distributed (Climate Reality Leaders) and decentralised (Hubs and Campus Corps) engagement models, and you are very familiar with climate science and policy. You enjoy strategic development and hands-on engagement through effective and impactful communication. You are committed to solving the climate crisis through deep citizen engagement, organizing and multi-stakeholder convening. As well as being a strategic thinker, the Communications & Social Media Manager will be someone who pays close attention to detail and deadlines and is exceptionally organized in their ability to assess priorities.

Position Description

The Communications & Social Media Manager will develop and implement the organization’s communications strategy, including the creation, review, and editing of content to promote the activities of the organization and disseminate educational content for The Climate Reality Project Canada. Additionally, he or she will oversee the communications team, in particular the IT & Social Media Coordinator.

Responsibilities
• Lead the development and implementation of the communications plan;
• Lead the development and implementation of the social media management strategy on different projects and awareness campaigns;
• Produce all communications material and write the communications tools (newsletters, sites, press releases, invitations) related to the different projects organized by the CRPC in French and in English;
• Devise and execute digital strategies around specific events and campaigns, including researching, writing, and creating visual content for social media in order to support and promote the organization’s campaigns and events;
• Manage the media and strategic monitoring on topics of interest to the organization;
• Manage the trend analysis on social networks and provide monthly reports to the Executive Director;
• Manage all social networks, media, and web relations;
• Manage and promote the organization's activities online, including HUBFLIX, and CRP initiatives such as 24 Hours of Reality;
• Lead on all the media relations developed for the organization;
• Ensure the quality of the content of the CRPC’s website in English and French and oversee all of the required updates;
• Disseminate and support targeted messaging of CRPC’s promoted projects, campaigns, and initiatives;
• Strengthen and increase CRPC’s overall online presence and brand, as well as its audiences’ online engagement through online campaigns, positioning the organization as the primary citizen-led climate education facilitator in Canada;
• Manage the IT & Social Media Coordinator by providing guidance, tools and answers to help her/him in their mandate;
• Assist with the preparation of quarterly reports, including the Activities Report, the Annual Report, and any other required documentation;
• Provide support for the day-to-day activities of the organization, whenever necessary.

Qualifications

DEP or bachelor’s degree in communications, political science, or other related fields.

• Web content management software (Strikingly)
• Paid advertising (Facebook, Instagram & Twitter Ads)
• CRM (Zoho & Insightly)
• MailChimp
• Video editing software (Final Cut Pro or Wochit)
• Coding (HTML & CSS languages)
• Media monitoring & social listening tools
