About Us

The New Brunswick Environmental Network (NBEN, nben.ca) is a dynamic and innovative organization that serves as a bilingual hub for New Brunswick’s environmental movement, convening and connecting people working on environmental issues in the province. Our mission is to encourage and facilitate communication and cooperation on environmental issues and to strengthen the environmental movement in New Brunswick. Founded in 1991, the NBEN is made up of over 110 environmental groups and works with hundreds of collaborative partners and stakeholders across the province and beyond.

The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for an outstanding leader to join a well-respected, established, provincial organization and lead a passionate staff team. The Executive Director will work closely with environmental groups and other stakeholders including provincial, federal and municipal governments, Indigenous communities and organizations, post-secondary institutions, and others in their collaborative efforts to advocate for the environment, protect nature, and carry out environmental education. The Executive Director will lead the organization in the development and implementation of a new strategic plan for the next few years.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for overall leadership of the organization as well as leadership within the province’s environmental movement, operational planning and management, program planning and management, HR planning and management, fundraising, financial planning and management, relationship-building, and risk management.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the NGO world and the mandate of a network organization, will have existing relationships in New Brunswick’s ENGO community, and will be fluently bilingual or, if not bilingual, will be committed to upholding the NBEN’s strong commitment to bilingualism. A driver’s license is required. Key skills include:
• Strategic thinking
• Workshop design and facilitation
• Team building, conflict resolution, relationship building
• Planning, problem-solving
• Budgeting and financial management of an annual budget of approximately $500,000
• Proposal-writing and reporting to funders
• Human resources management of a team of seven staff
• Communications, public speaking
• Risk management
• Governance

Start date: As soon as possible.

Salary: Starting at $55,000, commensurate with experience, as well as a generous benefits package.

Location: Moncton based office with possibility of working from home on occasion and with travel around New Brunswick. Please note that our office space is located on the second floor of a building only accessible at this time by a flight of stairs, with two gender-neutral washrooms and a kitchen on site.
