Hiring: Climate Change and Sustainability Coordinator
Organization: EOS Eco-Energy
Location: Sackville, near Moncton, New Brunswick
EOS is an award-winning charitable organization focused on helping communities address climate change in southeast New Brunswick and beyond. Were looking for an outgoing, dynamic, organized individual to coordinate a variety of climate change, sustainability, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and related educational and public outreach activities. The Coordinator will work out of the EOS office in beautiful Sackville, New Brunswick (following COVID-19 safety procedures).
Responsibilities:
The Climate Change and Sustainability Coordinator will coordinate community-based projects for EOS and be responsible for the implementation of municipal climate change initiatives for the municipality of Tantramar (formerly the Town of Sackville, Village of Dorchester, Point-de-Bute and Local Service Districts).
The Coordinator will contribute to the development and implementation of municipal climate initiatives such as the reduction of GHG emissions, improving local EV infrastructure, and climate considerations.
Support municipal staff in using their internal municipal climate lens.
Support the Tantramar Climate Change Advisory Committee, take meeting minutes, etc.
The Coordinator will also be responsible for responding to projects and research identified by Council.
For EOS the Coordinator will work on a solar schools project with solar energy installations at local schools and institutions, education and outreach at schools and for the public, creation of signage and web content, organize site tours, calculate GHG reductions, etc.
Work with EOS staff, interns, contractors, partners to organize NB Climate Change and Renewable Energy Week.
Support our Renewables NB coordinator to add resources, videos, etc. to the Renewables NB website, and on energy efficiency projects (efficiency kits at local libraries, energy poverty survey, activities for youth, etc.)
Organize Renewables NB meetings and work on funding applications to support the work of Renewables NB.
Preparation and presentation of regular updates to the municipality (including Council meetings) and EOS.
Assist in coordinating meetings of the Chignecto Climate Change Collaborative.
General energy and climate change public awareness initiatives, information booths, etc.
General help with office tasks, public inquiries, attend EOS meetings, write and submit funding proposals, project budgeting, report writing, liaise with funders and partners, communicate with EOS members and volunteers, contribute to EOS newsletter and social media, assist with administrative tasks, etc.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Strong knowledge and/or experience in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency, GHG emissions reduction, climate change adaption and mitigation, sustainable development and public outreach especially within a community-based context.
Understanding and appreciation of the municipal government process is an asset.
Well organized project management and coordination.
Excellent presentation, and facilitation skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Community outreach and engagement experience, ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships.
Experience working with the public and with children and youth.
Strong multi-tasking, organizational skills.
Eagerness to learn new skills and participate in training opportunities.
Ability to work independently and in a team setting on a variety of assigned tasks.
Strong computer skills with knowledge of various computer software packages including Apple, Microsoft Office and the Adobe Suite of programs, Canva, Wordpress websites, and effective social media skills.
Experience writing funding applications and final reports is an asset.
Qualifications:
At least a Bachelors degree and some work experience in municipal government, environmental non-profits, environmental planning, sustainable development or related field is required. A masters degree would be an asset.
Fluency in English (French an asset).
Valid Class 5 drivers license and access to a vehicle would be helpful as we work across a rural region.
The successful applicant enjoys small town living and municipal politics, is outgoing, engaging, creative, confident, responsible, energetic, has excellent time management and interpersonal skills, good judgement, and is self-motivated.
Being 30 or under; unemployed, underemployed, or a recent grad; a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status is not mandatory but could allow for additional internship funding.
Position Details:
Start by late November 2023 to early June 2024. The position is 40 hours a week with a flexible schedule. Become part of our energetic EOS team and enjoy a fun, relaxed atmosphere in our beautiful Main Street office overlooking the Bay of Fundy. Potential for extension, depending on further funding. Salary range of around $20-22 per hour dependent on experience.
