Ethno-cultural mandate or ethno-cultural casting statement: Red Snow
Collective creates innovative theatre that merges Eastern and Western
art forms through storytelling, music and movement that engages and
provokes audiences, cross borders and challenges the norm. Their theatre
creations bring together artists of the highest calibre and diversity to
speak stories that are globally relevant and creatively powerful.

This theatre piece requires performers with skills in acting, movement,
singing and improvisation to work as an ensemble. Actors will be given
sides from the play prior to the audition and will be asked to improvise
both a movement and a vocal piece. The ability to speak or sing in
Mandarin is an asset but not mandatory.

Red Snow Collective is accepting submissions for theatre artists for two
upcoming development workshops March/April 2015 and September 2015 and
its 2016 production of the new play, "comfort", by Diana Tso. The story
is inspired by the comfort women in Asia and the resilience of women in
war. Red Snow Collective will be co-presenting with www.zataomm.org

We are looking for theatre artists who can play characters of Asian
descent and work as a collective through text, movement and voice for
the following roles:

Li Dan Feng: plays age 19 to 25 over the course of the play
Xiao Yu: plays age 20 to 27 over the course of the play
Cormorant and Moon
Mother
Old Widow
Nabi: a comfort woman
Soldier

All roles above will also be in the Chorus as soldiers or comfort women
except for Xiao Yu and Dan Feng is a comfort woman in ACT II.

Equity members will be given priority. Equity members cast in this
workshop and production will be engaged under an ITA Equity contract. 

1st development phase is March 16 to April 3, 2015 (9 four-hour
workshops)
2nd development phase is September 2015 (9 four-hour workshops)
The production will be Fall/Winter 2016

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity
members cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of
contract. CAEA members: please bring your membership card to the
audition.
