the City of Regina uses Hansen, I do not know if I can tell you anything different from all the other communities that use the program, but we are happy with the program, Ithink our asset management people liked the older version rather than Hansen 8, but it is a great asst management tool

Shelley,

We have been using Hansen since 1999. Currently using version 8 which is web based. Please give me a call to discuss the pros and cons.

Hi,
I am on a committee that is reviewing the software that our city uses for asset management and work order tracking. Each of us has been given the task of contacting other municipalities to find out what system they are using and if they are happy with it. If anyone has a system that they would recommend or, alternatively not recommend, I sure would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.

Shelley,

In Brantford we use a program called Avantis; it seems quite similar to
the description of Hansen posted yesterday. As it is not geared to
managing trees, it's a general asset management program. I believe it was
initially used for industrial use. It has required extensive
customization to make it work for tree inventory & work order management.
We were the first department in Brantford to use this program, and we have
had good success with some aspects, while other significant issues have
been unresolved. A lot of work was put in at the beginning to get our
work order system up and running for trees; it works quite well. However,
we ran out of time to get our grid pruning program computerized, so now
our operations is still half on paper and half on the computer. I think
Avantis could be a good program, it just requires a lot of customization
and highly detailed planning at the outset.

It's been 7 years since Avantis was rolled out and we've gotten used to
paddling our half-built ship.

Hi Shelley,

York Region is going through a similar exercise to select a
comprehensive assets management software. Currently we are running a
custom built street tree inventory/management software. The inventory
application is GIS based and uses a tablet/GPS unit to collect
location/attribute information and perform inspections. We have yet to
set-up the work order portion of the application. The system is an
excellent inventory and analysis tool. If you would like to discuss
this in more detail please give me a call.
