[CANUFNET] Hydro removals and stumping

Hi Shelley,

In Montreal, we have an agreement with the provincial utility Hydro-Québec.

When we have specific tree work to carry out on public trees adjacent to their wires, Hydro will intervene to provide 3 metres of clearance so that our workers may complete the job safely (in accordance with CSST health and safety standards). In very specific cases Hydro may proceed with the entire removal of the tree. The City is responsible for clean-up and wood waste collection after Hydro passes - they leave everything piled up in the street. We are currently not billed for these requests. Hydro does not intervene on stumps as this is the City's responsibility. Hope that helps!

Subject: [CANUFNET] Hydro removals and stumping

Hello,
We are interested to find out what process other municipalities follow regarding stumping and hydro tree removals. If the hydro utility in your city is responsible for removing trees from under wires (when they cannot be successfully trimmed), does your municipal urban forestry department foot the bill for stump grinding or does the utility complete the entire job at their own cost? Thanks.
Shelley
