Hi Stan,
At Royal Botanical Gardens, Hamilton, we use a rotary engraver to engrave all of our own labels. We use a black anodized aluminum for all our labels.
As stated, many engraving (trophies etc.) companies will be able to do this for you.
I would suggest checking out Lark Label (http://www.larklabel.com/). Although not a Canadian source, Karl of Lark Label has specialized in plant labels and works with many botanical gardens and arboreta around the world. He know a bit about plants and definitely knows about how to effectively produce plant labels which other engraving companies may not fully understand.
All the best!

Subject: [CANUFNET] Tree tag/plate question.
Dear CUFN members:
A general question to anyone who has an arboretum or have used tree name plates.
I am looking to find a few good Canadian companies that could produce name plates for our arboretum trees.
We have used a plastic tag/plate in the past (photo attached) but we are also exploring all options including metal.
If anyone has a suggestion on a company that may be able to provide a quote that would be appreciated. The name plates would be attached to stones at the base of each of the trees which is why we are considering metal.
Thank you,
Stan
