[CANUFNET] Planting door hangers (Blair Stewart via CANUFNET)

Hi all,

We have used the attached door hanger for a few years. It has two purposes, to help ask residents to water young trees and/ or help where we notice excessive string trimmer damage.

Cheers

Blair

Naomi,
I agree that picture may not be the best to show the placement of mulch however there is a distinct area adjacent to the trunk that is clear of mulch. The low camera angle does not show it off that well.
Thanks, Mark.

Hi Mark:

Forgive me if my comment is incorrect but the picture in the door hanger looks like a mulch volcano - no matter how much I enlarged, you can't see the root flare. Since you correctly asked people to not mound anything around the base of the tree, shouldn't the picture reflect the correct installation of mulch? We always constructed donuts but from this picture, the mounds do not look as if there is a depression in the middle and a clear zone around the buttress area.

Thanks - no offense.

Hi Steve,
We have used a door hanger (attached) for several years now with a lot of success. As our planting is now contracted out for the most part, we have them fill in the species at the time of planting and leave it at the adjacent home. We found that without the door hanger, we were receiving several calls relating to the type of tree and what they need to do to help it get established.
The door hangers for the most part have answered these questions.
Thanks, Mark.

We are currently reviewing our planting program within the City of Hamilton, including methods for communicating with homeowners. I?d be interested to see what other municipalities are doing to communicate with residents in terms of what trees they are receiving, as well as aftercare and ?the big picture?. Any ideas or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
