The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority invites applications for the full-time permanent position of Forestry Technician to fill a vacancy. The position is responsible for recommending and implementing approved forest management activities on Authority properties and private lands. The individual will report to the Coordinator, Forestry.
Responsibilities:
* Conducts forest resource inventory field work and compiles results into operating plans and management plans.

* Coordinates and maintains a forest property database including the verification of property tax assessment values.

* Creates and implements silvicultural prescriptions for forest operations on authority lands.

* Coordinates and supervises forest harvest operations on authority lands and private lands as required.

* Creates work schedule.

* Plants and supervises the planting of landscape and seedling stock.

* Provides landowner service with regard to the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program.

* Undertakes the technical aspects of assisting in the delivery and promotion of the Forestry Program.

* Provides forestry expertise to other Authority departments as required.

* Undertakes performance evaluations of staff under his/her supervision.

* Responsible to work safely in compliance with all SVCA Health & Safety Policies.

* Other duties as assigned appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.


Qualifications:
* Diploma in Forestry

* At least two years of field experience as a Forestry Technician

* Associate Professional Forester status with the Ontario Professional Foresters Association would be an asset

* Ontario Tree Marking Certification

* Licensed Pesticide Exterminator

* A sound knowledge of forest management practices

* Excellent written and oral communication skills

* A working knowledge of word processing and computerized mapping programs

* Managed Forest Tax Incentive Plan Approver status

* Certified Chainsaw Operator

* Must be able to undertake field work as required under varying terrains and weather conditions

* Valid Ontario Driver's License


Salary: Starting at $52,455 per annum 37.5 hour work week
