[CANUFNET] Planting Trees Over Slab

Has anyone had experience working with Structural Engineers or Architects regarding calculating load capacity of trees over slab?

  1. What kinds of communication have you had or issues have come up?
  2. What kinds of things have you asked for? I assume they should be calculating support for:
     * Static load of fully saturated soil
     * They should know if there's any structural soil or silva cells, or other materials in the planting zone.
     * They need to calculate for the mature tree size (this needs to be specifically communicated, not assumed).
  3. In addition, of course planter drainage and moisture protection for the building will need to be coordinated with the architect.
  4. What kinds of solutions have you had/seen for supporting large trees over slab?

Regards,
Emily
