Human Services in the 21st Century
Creating an APP for That!
OMSSA 2012 Learning Symposium
hosted in partnership with the Region of Peel
The 21st century sees tremendous technological advancements occurring on
the bigger world stage - from new technologies for managing data, to new
ways of communication and collaboration. There is a perception that the
"rest of the world" is moving at a dizzying speed in incorporating
technology and social media in business and personal lives, but that,
perhaps, the social service sector could be doing more to keep pace. But
we cannot forget that we are in the "people business" - technology
should also be considered specifically for its potential to assist in
delivering social services to citizens.
In Ontario, anticipated reports such as those from the Drummond and the
Social Assistance Review commission are taking discussions towards the
need for innovations and changes in processes and policies. While the
conclusion of these reports is not determined, the discussion they will
generate is one that will contribute to the ongoing transformation -
both technological and otherwise - of the social services landscape. The
social and housing services in Ontario need to be ready to participate
in these discussions.
OMSSA's 2012 Learning Symposium will bring together municipal service
managers, private and public sector organizations, community leaders,
and community partners to start this dialogue. Through plenaries,
workshops and best practice case studies, the conference will discuss
the concept of innovation in social service delivery, whether it is
technology induced or process driven, the potential and impact of
technology in service delivery, and the connected issues of privacy
implications, remote service delivery, multigenerational workforce, and
more. Together we will discuss the potentials and possibilities of
pushing the envelope and leading and managing the change rather than
responding to it.
Whether you are a CEO, director, supervisor, front line staff member,
provincial or federal staff member or member of a community
organization, attending this conference will provide you with the
opportunity to discuss strategies for implementing technology for better
citizen engagement, hear of transformational innovation practices,
discuss privacy impacts of technology in our work, best practices in
service delivery in an increasingly digital age, and more.
