I’m pleased to share this great news with all of you who work so hard every day to end homelessness in our community. Each and everyone of you play a key role in our efforts to make sure that one day, everyone will have a place to call home. Our collective work makes all the difference in the lives of individuals and families who experience homelessness in our community to find appropriate housing. It’s important that we all take a moment from our busy day to reflect on this notable achievement and celebrate our successes!

Je suis heureux de partager cette excellente nouvelle avec vous tous qui travailler si fort chaque jour pour mettre fin à l’itinérance dans notre communauté. Chacun d’entre vous joue un rôle clé dans nos efforts pour nous assurer qu’un jour, tout le monde aura un chez-soi. Notre travail collectif fait toute la différence dans la vie des personnes et des familles qui vivent l’itinérance dans notre communauté pour trouver un logement approprié. Dear Ottawa Community,

One of the best parts of my job is celebrating when teams working together can measurably reduce homelessness in communities across Canada.

Today, I’m so happy to share that Ottawa has reduced chronic homelessness by 19% since January 2020.

Since 2020, the city has made targeted changes to their systems that have created a major impact.

Ottawa has reached and maintained a 10% reduction in chronic homelessness since June 2021. And as of May 2022, they hit a 19% reduction. This work has continued throughout the pandemic - an extremely challenging environment to continue this work in.

This success is due to the ongoing, tireless work of the City of Ottawa, community partners and homelessness response agencies, in partnership with Built For Zero Canada and the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness.

This shows what we can do when all partners work together on Housing First solutions, using quality data and continually adapting to change.
