Position: Ecology Action Green Home Tours Coordinator

The Ecology Action Centre (EAC) was established in 1971 and is Nova Scotia's
largest and most active environmental organization. We have recently
completed the first phase of a green renovation on our new home in Halifax's
North End. This space is the first working demonstration of a green office
renovation in Nova Scotia and is receiving considerable attention from the
media and the public. Plus, it's a fantastic place to work. The Green Home
Tours Coordinator will have responsibility for creating and implementing a
program of on-site and web-based tours designed to encourage the public to
make energy efficiency improvements in their homes.

Responsibilities of this position will include:

. Finalizing the collection, compilation and synthesis of information
regarding suppliers, products, technologies, systems and processes related
to the various elements of our renovation;

. Collaborating on the development of guided and self-guided tours of
the building;

. Coordinating the design and production of display boards and
interactive demonstrations;

. Researching potential partners and recruiting sponsors for energy
conservation kits to be given to tour participants;

.        Leading public tours of the building;

.        Training and supervising volunteer tour guides;

.        Developing a training manual for volunteer tour guides;

.        Marketing and recruiting participants for tours;

.        Coordinating four public workshops;

. Supervising and collaborating with the Home Display Research
Coordinator;

. Reporting to an in-house staff team.

This is an opportunity to work with a respected environmental organization
on an exciting new project. Candidates should have excellent public
education skills, an ability to work independently, and an understanding of
green renovation and energy issues. Excellent communication skills and a
commitment to the environment are also required. Experience working at or
developing materials for public education institutions such as museums,
interpretative centres, or parks would bean asset. Technical knowledge of
solar energy, energy conservation, or the building industry would also be an
asset.

This is a part-time position - 20 hours per week paid $17 per hour. The
position will run from July 17 to Dec 15, 2006.
