[Sust-mar] Sierra Club Atlantic Canada Awards - send in your nominations

The Atlantic Canada Chapter of the Sierra Club of Canada (SCC-ACC) is
seeking nominations for their two annual awards. These awards are offered
to Maritimers who have made great contributions towards promoting and
protecting our environment through grassroots activism, public education or
successful lobbying.
The Rudy Haase Award
Awarded for outstanding conservation achievement to the Sierra Club
volunteer who best exemplifies the principles, values and effectiveness of
Martin Rudy Haase.
Martin Rudy Haase has been a Sierra Club member for over 50 years and was
the recipient of this 1st annual award. Persistent, uncompromising,
effective, Rudy Haase has protected ecosystems from Costa Rica to Nova
Scotia, led successful local campaigns to protect wilderness, prevent
uranium mining and prevent pesticide spraying.
"Bruno" Award
Awarded to a committed environmentalist who sticks to his or her principles
and really
ticks off a municipality, government or government agency in the process.
Bruno Marcocchio, a resident of Sydney, Cape Breton has consistently
demonstrated his commitment to environmentally sustainable solutions to many
environmental issues throughout the Maritime Provinces. Bruno has the
ability to articulate and publicly debate important issues and be heard.
We invite you to forward nominations to the address below before July 10,
2006. Please include a brief paragraph describing why the nominee should
receive the award.
