On Dec 13th at 6:30PM, the newly formed Halifax Cycling Coalition will meet
in the Daltech School of Architecture Auditorium (5410 Spring Garden Rd.) to
elect a board of directors and set the organization's goals for the future.

The Halifax Cycling Coalition was formed in Halifax to address the lack of
attention the city of Halifax gives to cycling issues. Its members come from
a wide variety of backgrounds but are united in their desire to improve
safety for all road users including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

The Halifax Cycling Coalition believes that promoting cycling as a means of
transportation in Halifax will reduce traffic congestion, reduce greenhouse
gas emissions, reduce road maintenance and repair costs , contribute to a
healthier population and enhance our urban environment. Promoting cycling
will also help the city achieve its goals as stated in the Active
Transportation Plan and the Community Energy Plan.

The Coalition is committed to working with all levels of government, and
with cyclists, motorists, and pedestrians to improve cycling conditions, and
looks forward to a day when the bicycle is an accepted and safe means of
transportation in the City of Halifax.
