Environmental Legal Toolkit Workshops
This is your opportunity to participate in an environmental law and policy
workshop led by legal experts. Learn the legal tools to protect the earth!
The workshops will run from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM and are being held in four
different locations in Nova Scotia.

Workshop Description:
These one-day training sessions will educate Nova Scotians about the legal
tools available to protect our air, water, land and human health. The
workshop will be led by experienced lawyers from the Sierra Legal Defence
Fund and the East Coast Environmental Law Association. The workshops have
been organized by the Nova Scotia Environmental Network with funding from
the Law Foundation of Nova Scotia. Workshop fees include nutrition breaks,
lunch and a binder of workshop and reference material.
Early Bird: $35 NSEN members, $40 non-members (After July 6: $45)

Free public presentation. Reception to follow.
Come to hear how Sierra Legal has launched the first global warming lawsuit
in Canada, alleging that the federal government is breaching domestic law
by not meeting its international commitments under the Kyoto Protocol.
Robert will also be speaking on his work in upholding the federal Fisheries
Act, including legal challenges to the destruction of fish habitat by
dragger fishing taking place on the Georges Bank and the construction of
causeways through listed salmon rivers in Labrador, as well as a legal
intervention in P.E.I.'s challenge of the federal government's historic
fisheries management on the basis of a violation of the public trust.
Robert is the senior counsel for Sierra Legal's Toronto office. He obtained
his law degree from the University of Western Ontario, a Master of Laws
degree from Cambridge University, and has appeared as counsel at all court
levels in Ontario, as well in the Federal Court and Supreme Court of Canada
. Sierra Legal is Canadas largest environmental law organization, dedicated
to enforcing and strengthening the laws that safeguard our environment,
wildlife and public health.
