The Climate Change Centre
Programs Officer: April 2008-March 2009

The Climate Change Centre (CCC) is a program of the environmental
non-profit Clean Nova Scotia, an organization that has been in existence
for 20 years and is based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The CCC provides
education and outreach to all Nova Scotians on climate change and energy
efficiency with the majority of projects for 2008-2009 focusing on youth
and educators  and post-secondary institutions. The CCC also provides
general community outreach upon request from citizens of Nova Scotia who
are interested in becoming educated and taking action on issues related
to climate change.

The Climate Change Centre is seeking a dynamic, outgoing individual with
excellent public education and outreach skills who will work as the
Programs Officer in partnership with the current Programs Coordinator of
the CCC. The Programs Officer will be responsible for delivering
classroom presentations to P-12 students and educators; developing and
delivering workshops to post-secondary students; and providing outreach
and consultation services to First Nations communities.  This is a
full-time contract position until March 2009, with opportunity for
renewal.

Responsibilities include:
* Develop and deliver classroom presentations and activities on climate
change and energy issues to P-12 students and educators across the
province;
* Develop materials and deliver workshops to post-secondary students at
colleges and universities across the province to facilitate campus
action on climate change and energy efficiency;
* Assist the Programs Coordinator with general administrative tasks,
such as updating CCC website, writing of e-newsletter, meetings,
reporting, etc.

Qualifications include:
* Degree in a field related to the environment (B.Sc., BES, or BA)
* 1-2 years experience with public education and outreach
* Experience developing public education and outreach materials
* Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
* A background in climate change and energy efficiency is considered an
asset
* A background in working with children, youth, post-secondary students,
and/or First Nations is considered an asset
* The ability to speak French is considered an asset  
* A valid driver's license and willingness to travel across Nova Scotia
is required
  
The Programs Officer will work out of the Clean Nova Scotia office
located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, though some travel will be required.
