*Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps 2014 - **Expression of Interest*


Dear Potential Community Partner,

Due to recent funding changes within the federal government, Clean Nova
Scotia is requesting that all interested Nova Scotia Youth Conservation
Corps (NSYCC) Community Partners submit an Expression of Interest for 2014
project(s). If selected, Clean Nova Scotia will request a full proposal in
the winter of 2014


*PROGRAM OVERVIEW*

The Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps (NSYCC) builds connections between
youth and local organizations to stimulate stewardship for the natural
environment and support the emergence of young community leaders. This is
accomplished by providing students (ages 15-30) with training and
employment opportunities through paid work placements with community-based
organizations. A major NSYCC priority is to equip youth with the aptitude
to become leaders in their communities while delivering meaningful
environmental projects across the province.



*NSYCC Outcomes*:

   - Nova Scotian youth develop an appreciation for their community, the
   natural environment and the skills to take initiatives and leadership roles.
   - Nova Scotian youth develop career oriented skills through hands-on
   environmental work placements.
   - Nova Scotian youth are better equipped to become leaders and
   practitioners in the environmental field and other professional pursuits.
   - Community partners have an increased capacity to undertake priority
   environmental activities.
   - Communities have greater awareness about local environmental
   priorities.


*PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY*

Non-profit community organizations, municipalities, and other community
groups that provide meaningful work experience in the environmental field
for youth age 15 to 30 are eligible to apply for the NSYCC program. All
projects must include an educational component and have an environmental
benefit. The NSYCC program does not consider projects that are of direct
economic benefit to a group. *Please fill in a separate Expression of
Interest for each project that you are applying for.*


*NSYCC APPLICATIONS*

The NSYCC has a two part application process:

1.       Expression of Interest are to be submitted to Clean Nova Scotia by
4pm on Friday, December 13, 2013 in order to be considered for funding in
2014. This will help to reduce the risk of organizations having to invest
time in a full application when they have little possibility of receiving
funding.

2.       Full Proposal will need to be submitted by approved organizations
in the winter of 2014.


*PROGRAM BENEFITS*

The NSYCC program provides wage subsidies for the Community Partners
involved in the program. The NSYCC program delivers training for all of the
students at the beginning and end of the work placements, supports the
student hiring process with the Community Partners and administers the
payroll for all NSYCC participants. In past years, the program was
delivered for nine weeks from late June to the end of August. Due to
feedback from students and Community Partners, the work terms may be
extended beyond nine weeks. Please see the attached NSYCC 2014 - Expression
of Interest for work term options.



Community Partners are responsible for at least 25% of the wage expense for
the NSYCC students. The wage for NSYCC students is at least $0.50 more than
Nova Scotia’s minimum wage. The finalized cost breakdown will be provided
during the full application process.



Expressions of interest are due at *4pm on Friday, December 13, 2013*.
