Position: Agri-Ecology Technician

Remuneration: $16.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay and statutory benefits at 35 hours per week.

Qualifications: 

Post-secondary diploma or bachelor’s degree in agricultural science, ecological sciences, biology, natural resources or 3 years related experience. The successful candidate will be required to use their personal vehicle for work travel and compensated according to the prevailing policy (approx. $0.43/km). Must have experience working collaboratively on agricultural or ecological related projects/programs. Must have experience and/or knowledge in identifying fish species, flora, water quality measurements and in agricultural best management practices. Must be able to write a scientific report and communications material.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Agri-Ecology Technician works under the direction of the Manager of Program Delivery in a supportive and cooperative team environment. The Agri-Ecology Technician will be expected to complete duties directly related to CARP day to day activities in order to fulfill ecological monitoring project requirements for agricultural and water quality projects.

The Agri-Ecology Technician is expected to conduct field work as needed in various weather conditions and field conditions using their personal vehicle (compensated according to CARP's travel policy). The Agri-Ecology Technician will also be expected to spend time in the office entering data and conducting reporting requirements as directed by Manager of Program Delivery.

Specific tasks can include:
• Lead CARP's Agri-Stewardship (new) project including liaison with farms, provincial agriculture representatives and Federation of Agriculture.
• Conduct best management practices assessments for farms in the Annapolis River watershed including implementation plans.
• Conduct ecological assessments of farm properties in the Annapolis River watershed including fish habitat, biodiversity, and surface water quality assessments.
• Conduct ecological monitoring of aquatic health parameters (e.g. temperature, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, pH, fish assessments and sampling, invertebrate sampling) when required.
• Help train summer and seasonal CARP staff on as needed basis.
• Attend meetings for projects as required with project committee or CARP management.
• Help deliver outreach, stewardship and educational activities (e.g. host events, presentations in local schools and groups) as directed by CARP management.
• Assist in riparian restoration, photo collection and vegetation planting as needed and directed by CARP management.
• Participate in monthly staff meetings, quarterly Board meetings and prepare summary reports for the Board of Directors.
• Write reports for agricultural clients (client reports) and scientific report for CARP (final reports) and project partners.
• Other field work or office work as directed by CARP Management.
