Vision: ACORN aims to enhance the viability and growth of the Atlantic Canadian organic agricultural community through a unified regional network. Mission Statement: ACORN is a non-profit organization that promotes organic agriculture by: Facilitating information exchange between and amongst organizations and individuals; Coordinating nonformal education for producers through to consumers; Networking with all interested parties both regionally and nationally.
Job Description:
The ACORN Office and Outreach Assistant will provide support to ACORN staff in managing the day-to-day office and activities of an organic hub in the Maritimes. The summer student will assist in member outreach (to ~400 Atlantic-wide member base), web updating and general office communications, and will be responsible for supporting advanced preparations for ACORNs involvement in Organic Week.
Specific tasks will include:
Assistance with office tasks, including web updates, phone calls and membership outreach;
Working with ACORNs extensive online membership database to enhance member profile listings;
Boosting ACORNs online presence by seeking out, tagging, and adding resources to ACORNs online organic farm resource library;
Support with ACORNs on-going projects, including CSA Network, Grow A Farmer Program, Seed Program, etc;
Outreach to retailers, restaurants and producers to coordinate Organic Week activities across the Maritimes.
Qualifications:
Strong interest in organic food and agriculture
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience with Macs would be considered an asset
Eligible Applicants must:
Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred.
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Job details:
32 hours/week at $12.00/hour for a 10-week contract with negotiable start date.**
The successful candidate will work out of ACORNs office in Sackville, NB.
**Please note: Funding dependent, 2 positions may be available.
