Call for proposals! ACIC Symposium Workshops

The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation will be holding its Symposium & AGM entitled Common Concern: Standing Together as Global Citizens at Mount Allison University, Sackville NB from June 15th to 17th, 2017. See the workshop proposal forms and information here: www.acicsymposium.org/workshops<http://www.acicsymposium.org/workshops>

The symposium will enable us to reflect on the seismic shift in recent times of the global political landscape - evidenced in the election of a demagogue to the most important political position in the world, volatile referenda and electoral results in Europe, and racist, war-mongering, misogynist and anti-planet discourse, including here in Canada. Together we will explore what role Atlantic Canadians engaged in promoting social justice locally and globally can play in countering these forces that threaten the values of global citizenship - human rights, democratic participation, rule of law, public deliberation based on dialogue and access to accurate information, and environmental sustainability.

This year, we look forward not only to a host of interesting panelists, but also to two exciting keynote speakers - Alex Neve, Secretary General of Amnesty International Canada, and Alice Mugisho Musimwa, coordinator of a team of human rights advocates working to defend the rights of vulnerable women and children in the Democratic Republic of Congo with the East and Central African Association for Indigenous Rights.

Please see the attached guidelines and submission form for workshop proposals. Applications must be received by Friday, May 12th. A bursary is available for each selected workshop.

Send your completed proposal to Carolyn Whiteway at carolyn at acic-caci.org<mailto:carolyn at acic-caci.org> by 4pm on May 12th. If you have any questions, please contact the office at the same email address or by phone at 902.431.2311.
