Position: Manager – Proposals & Research
Organization: Clean Foundation
Location: Dartmouth/Halifax, Nova Scotia

Summary of the Position: 

The Manager – Proposals & Research will support the development of new and existing projects and programs. This may include reviewing procurement websites and other sources to identify new funding opportunities, tracking funding commitments, compiling and analyzing data, compiling bids and proposals, and writing summary reports on a variety of topics. This may involve preparing work plans and project charters, and other project management documents.

This position requires you to be innovative and self-motivated with strong organizational skills and a background or interest in a wide variety of environmental topics

Specific Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities): 
• Work with various team members across the organization to improve and evolve existing programs as well as identify and create new opportunities that are consistent with Clean’s mission and values;
• Conduct research in order to provide support for new and existing projects;
• Maintain clear communication with project teams and internal and external stakeholders;
• Support proper delivery of the human resources and safety policies, procedures and practices of the organization;
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Competencies:

Implies a desire to help or serve others, to meet their needs. It means focussing one’s efforts on discovering and meeting the stakeholder’s needs. “Stakeholders” include internal colleagues, citizens, elected officials or anyone that the person is trying to help.
• Ensures the tracking of trends and developments that will affect own organizations’ ability to meet current and future client needs.
• Identifies benefits for clients, looks for ways to add value.
• Looks for opportunities to save money or resources for client.
• Seeks out and involves clients or prospective clients in assessing services, solutions or products to identify ways to improve.

Teamwork & Cooperation

The intention to work cooperatively with others, to be part of a team, to work together, as opposed to working separately or competitively. For this competency to be effective, the intention should be genuine.
• Initiates collaboration with other groups / organizations on projects or methods of operating.
• Capitalizes on opportunities and addresses challenges presented by the diversity of team talents.
• Supports and encourages other team members to achieve objectives.
• Genuinely values the input and expertise of others, and is willing to learn from others (especially subordinates). Solicits ideas and opinions to help form specific decisions or plans. Invites all members of a group to contribute to a process.
• Publicly credits others who have performed well. Encourages and empowers others, makes them feel strong or important.

Impact and Influence

An intention to persuade, convince, influence or impress others, in order to get them to go along with or to support the speaker’s agenda. It is based on the desire to have a specific impact or effect on others where the person has his or her own agenda, a specific type of impression to make, or a course of action that he or she wants the others to adopt.
• Builds ‘behind the scenes’ support for initiatives.
• Recognizes and pursues partnering opportunities to achieve business unit objectives.

Managing Change 

Managing and facilitating the process of change and transition while helping others deal with their effects.
• Ensures that change does not derail progress toward identified objectives.

Identifying, assessing and managing risk while striving to attain objectives.
• Implements initiatives with high potential for pay-off to the organization, where errors cannot be rectified, or only rectified at significant cost.

Is the intention to take a role as leader of a team or other group. It implies a desire to lead others. Team Leadership is generally, but not always, shown from a position of formal authority.
• Values and encourages others’ input and suggestions.

• Ensures the respective strengths of team members are used in order to achieve the team’s overall objectives.

Education and Required Qualifications:
• Completion of post-secondary education in Public Administration, Business Administration, Environmental Science or a related field.
• Minimum of (5) years’ experience in program development or related role;
• Minimum of (5) years’ experience managing employees;
• A track record of bring new projects, initiative or programs from idea to funded implementation;
• Operational experience in Clean’s core areas of program delivery (energy efficiency, waste, water, education and transportation) would be considered an asset;
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy;
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
• Experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with outside agencies and private firms;
• Strong research skills;
• Experience conducting research and drafting/compiling reports;
• Detailed oriented and good quantitative abilities skills;
• Excellent time management and organization skills;
• Ability to work productively as part of a team;
• Proficiency with Outlook, Internet search engines and Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision;
• Must be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract from the Registry of Motor Vehicle;
• Must demonstrate a passion

Working Conditions

Additional hours, or time outside of the normal work hours, may be required in order to meet operational requirements of planning and delivering specific projects at specific times of the year.
