Position: Project Officer
Organization: COINAtlantic
Location: COINAtlantic’s office is located in Halifax, NS. Consideration will be given to virtual/remote working arrangements.

The Coastal & Ocean Information Network Atlantic (COINAtlantic) is a non-governmental organization based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are dedicated to supporting the integrated management of coastal and ocean resources in Atlantic Canada through open data management and information sharing. COINAtlantic works across sectors and collaborates with partners to understand needs and develop information products, facilitate conversations and organize workshops and webinars to support relevant and timely coastal and ocean information exchange. COINAtlantic has been supporting access to coastal and ocean data since 1992 and recently joined other partners in Atlantic Canada to form the Atlantic Regional Association of the Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System (CIOOS Atlantic).

We are seeking candidates for the full-time position of COINAtlantic Project Officer. We are looking for a capable and enthusiastic individual who thrives in a dynamic and diverse work environment. The Project Officer is responsible for supporting the Executive Director of COINAtlantic in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan and projects; managing the COINAtlantic website, social media, and preparing and distributing the COINAtlantic Newsletter; and supporting the development of relationships with data providers and end users to promote the use of CIOOS.

The Project Officer’s key responsibilities include: 
• Supporting COINAtlantic Executive Director, and Board in the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan.
• Participating in the organization and delivery of COINAtlantic projects including research, reporting, workshops and meetings.
• Ensuring the COINAtlantic web presence is accurate, engaging and effective.
• Managing COINAtlantic’s social media accounts.
• Preparing the Quarterly COINAtlantic Newsletter while maintaining and expanding the newsletter distribution list.
• Engaging with coastal and ocean stakeholders and rightsholders in Atlantic Canada and building support for the objectives and activities of COINAtlantic and the Atlantic Regional Association of CIOOS Atlantic.
• Developing and managing projects in collaboration with partners that advance the goals of COINAtlantic and CIOOS Atlantic.

Qualifications:
• University degree in a discipline relevant to the position, including but not exclusive of biology, earth science, environmental science, and oceanography. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is an asset.
• Knowledge of the Atlantic Canadian coastal and ocean sector, its stakeholders, and the roles and mandates of agencies, government departments and organizations.
• Knowledge of Marine Spatial Planning, ocean and coastal management, marine sciences, and spatial data management and analysis.
• Knowledge of the principles and technologies for the open and online sharing of data and information.
• Knowledge of the issues and opportunities related to the coasts and oceans of Atlantic Canada.
• Communication skills: writing, editing, presentation, social media, and website management.
• Fluency with computers (MS Office and Google Suites) and comfort with or ability to learn website content management.
• The ability to work effectively within a small team.

Location: COINAtlantic’s office is located in Halifax, NS. Consideration will be given to virtual/remote working arrangements.

Start: The preferred start date is July 2021 or ASAP.

Salary Range: $35,000 - $40,000. Remuneration will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
