Ragged Harbour Sea Farm is a project that challenges the tides of
unsustainable aquaculture in our region.
They've just launched a GoFundMe and need your support. Please share widely!

>From their GoFundMe page:
Restorative aquaculture has the opportunity to nurture endangered marine
habitat, build local food security, create just jobs all while modeling a
novel approach to fighting climate change in Nova Scotia.

Inspired by Greenwave , Ragged Harbour Sea Farm will be an integrated
mixed-species 3D marine farm. Edible seaweeds and seagrasses will be the
forest and pasture, while various shellfish and crustaceans will populate
them. This approach to respectfully cultivating the ocean will not only
provide healthy abundance for Nova Scotia, it will build vital habitat for
wild species of fish, clean the seawater of Nitrogen and, if done right,
capture carbon from the atmosphere.

With its broad base of partners and diversity of products, Ragged Harbour
Sea Farm will network with growers, chefs & farmers markets to find its
clientele - customers who enjoy highly sustainable food, quality local
ingredients and, in the case of seaweed, love asian cooking or are looking
experiment with the bounty of Nova Scotia’s coastline. When the farm is in
full swing, and has a burgeoning reputation as an exciting new ecological
project, it will launch a community supported aquaculture (CSA) programme:
a fresh seafood basket sold directly and delivered bi-weekly.

The base of operations is 1064 Long Cove Road , by Port Medway, NS. The
spectacular property spans both sides of Long Cove and includes a 2000
square foot warehouse - once used to process fish, and a rustic fisherman’s
cabin. These 1.2 acres are nestled in two seaside nature reserves,
stewarded by the Nova Scotia Nature Trust and Nova Scotia , making it the
gateway to exploring this rare wilderness. Ragged Harbour Sea Farm will
welcome nature lovers and the recreation community by renting its current
and future facilities over platforms like AirBNB, building trails providing
kayaking. It will also actively participate in the stewardship of these
nature reserves.
