About AREA 

The Alternative Resource Energy Authority (AREA) is a clean energy company owned by the Towns of Antigonish, Berwick and Mahone Bay (Towns). The Towns are three of the five communities in Nova Scotia that own a municipal electric utility (MEU). AREA owns and operates the 23.5 MW Ellershouse Wind Farm and its Town utility customers, and the Riverport Electric Commission, were unique in meeting Nova Scotia’s original 2020 Renewable Electricity Standard (RES) of 40%. AREA assists the Towns, and other municipalities in Nova Scotia, in achieving their environmental goals by reducing carbon content in their electricity supply and electrifying the end use of energy. These activities include clean energy projects (ex. wind, solar, storage, etc.) and customer facing programs for heating and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The Opportunity 

As part of achieving the Town environmental goals, AREA is developing approximately 8.8MW of community solar gardens in the municipalities. AREA is seeking an experienced individual, or corporation, to provide Construction & Project Management Services on a part time basis from December 2021 – March 2023. This is a part time contract opportunity focused on the community solar gardens. It is expected the successful individual, or corporation, will be available for an average of 20 hours per week for the project duration. For clarity, qualified project management and construction firms are eligible, and encouraged, to submit proposals to this posting.

Responsibilities 

Under the direction of AREA’s Project Development Manager, the successful individual, or corporation, will be responsible for the following activities:
• Weekly job site assessments to verify work completed versus contractor progress reports
• Quarterly master progress reporting with AREA’s Owners Engineer and correction of deficiencies
• Assist AREA staff and contractors in problem solving and troubleshooting during construction.
• Represent AREA onsite during pre-production foundation testing and construction.
• Review and edit construction drawings as required. Manage the correction of deficiencies with input from AREA’s Owner’s Engineer.
• Assist with permitting, insurance, and other project documentation based on final drawings.
• Coordinate shipping, importing, delivery, storage, and site offloading of equipment as required.
• Organize procurement, delivery, and storage of medium voltage equipment.
• Updating internal project schedules and monthly progress reporting to stakeholders.

Qualifications 
• Excellent communication, problem solving, and time management skills.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience successfully managing construction sites and projects, preferably in the renewable energy industry.
• Professional engineering designation (P.Eng), Professional Project Manager (PMP) certification, or equivalent work experience to either, would be considered an asset.
• Experience with budgeting, financial modeling, and reporting is desirable.
• Clear background check.
• Drivers license and ability to travel within Nova Scotia.

Compensation 

Compensation negotiable based on qualifications.
